Deadline for Nominations is April 10th

History

The Exceptional Teacher Award began as an idea of Richard and Diane Block to recognize their own high school teachers who had made such a difference in their lives. Obviously, so many years later, those same teachers are gone, but the concept of recognizing exceptional high school teachers who made a difference would be just as valuable for teachers of their own children. Since all of their children attended West High four years and graduated from West, establishing this award for exceptional teachers at West seemed very appropriate.

The Exceptional Teacher Award Fund (ETAF) was established in 2015 as a fully endowed fund in the “Richard L. and Diane M. Block Foundation,” the earnings of which will be used to fund awards of not less than $1,000 each to up to six teachers, one from each of six academic departments at the school. In addition to the financial award, winners will be recognized at an award ceremony at the end of the school year and on a permanent plaque inside the entrance to the school.
